Camptothecin Extract

Camptothecin Extract(Camptotheca acuminata):

Camptothecin Extract is an anti-cancer drug derived from the Camptotheca acuminata tree. This extract contains derivatives of the quinoline alkaloid family, including camptothecin, 10-hydroxy camptothecin (HCPT), and lipophilic ester form, 10-deacetylbaccatin III (DAB). Since camptothecin is insoluble in aqueous environments, it has to be formulated in a nontoxic vehicle for better efficacy and delivery. The most common formulation for camptothecin is 7-ethyl-10-hydroxy camptothecin (SN38), which is used topically or intravenously to target and kill cancer cells. Studies have demonstrated that this extract inhibits DNA Topoisomerase activity and induces apoptosis while limiting cell damage to surrounding tissue. Its anti-cancer properties have shown to be effective against pancreatic cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer, melanomas, as well as other tumor types. Additionally, studies suggest that this extract could confer health benefits due to its potent antiviral activity on both HIV and herpes viruses.
