Cumin oleoresin is a type of extract derived from the cumin spice, obtained through the extraction process with supercritical CO2 or solvent. It’s a natural, concentrated form of the essential oil found in cumin, which makes it incredibly potent and full of flavor. Cumin oleoresin has a hot, pungent taste and aroma, and it can be used to add intensity to various dishes such as curries, chili con carne, soups, sauces, and marinates. On average it’s about ten times more potent than fresh ground cumin seed so you only need to use small amounts when cooking – a little goes a long way! Other uses include being an ingredient for soaps and perfumes due to its antifungal properties and its ability to create pleasant aromas.
